Immerse yourself in the A/E/C industry by participating in a hands-on program designed to give you a competitive edge in the job market. Working alongside professionals in your degree field, as well as working in interdisciplinary teams, will give you rich experience in the consulting engineering world. Partnering with cooperative education programs across the nation, JSE hires undergraduate students to alternate semesters of fulltime study with semesters of full-time paid work. Cooperative Education Students gain at least a year’s worth of valuable, professional work experience. These rotations typically begin during a student’s sophomore year, although some students begin working as early as the freshman year or as late as their junior year. Post-graduation, our desire is for our co-ops become full-time employees of Jordan & Skala Engineers.
Hear From Our CO-OP Program Graduates!
This co-op experience was one of the greatest in my life. I came with no experience, but thanks to the employees who took time to explain everything to me, I feel like I could design anything and this was only my first rotation. I surely can’t wait to come back.
Being able to work at JSE as a Co-Op has been super beneficial to me and my career path. I have been able to work with my team on multiple different projects and learn about all the different disciplines involved in the different projects. I hope to be able to use all the information I have learned in future classes and later in my career.
The JSE Co-op program has provided an incredible opportunity for me to experience what the “real world” workplace is like. Working under deadlines, collaborating with a team, exercising innovation, intellect and creativity have been a part of everyday work life. I am very thankful to JSE for giving me a chance and providing me ample opportunity for growth and development of my success.
JSE helps co-ops learn about the engineering industry and teaches co-ops how to advance their personal career. JSE has a fun, exciting atmosphere. From the people I work with to the work I do on my own, every little bit of it is interesting.
My time at Jordan & Skala has been fantastic so far. It has given me real-world experience, as well as many resourceful and insightful mentors to help along the way.
Before my co-op with JSE I wasn’t sure what line of electrical engineering I wanted to pursue full-time, but JSE’s co-op program has made me realize my interest in the MEP Engineering and design field. The combination of technical education, experiential learning, and a family-like community has given me opportunities and knowledge that I could not have obtained in a traditional classroom setting. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working at JSE and am counting down the days until my next rotation!
What does a co-op experience look like at Jordan & Skala?
Jordan & Skala Engineers works with students from Cooperative Education Programs across the country to give them a jump start in our industry and competitive advantage in the job market! Our co-op students work alongside professionals in their degree fields as well as in interdisciplinary teams giving the students a rich experience in the consulting engineering field.
The student will become acclimated to the consulting engineering workplace, legal codes, design concepts, and improve skills in the daily utilization of AutoCAD and Revit. Students are assigned a mentor to work with learning through observation, instruction, and experience. The students are encouraged to discuss skills and goals with their mentor in order to maximize their experience with Jordan & Skala. Our mentors’ doors are always open for questions. We strive to take our co-ops to site visits and client meetings throughout rotations. As a co-op student you will also be able to network with other co-op students and industry leaders, attend lunch and learns, and participate in company events.
The student will continue to become familiar with codes and calculations, work more independently on projects in AutoCAD and Revit, and accompany an engineer to a project site visit.
The student will work more independently, will implement knowledge from previous semesters to review shop drawing submittals, design layouts, and complete calculations. In every semester, we encourage our co-op students to ask questions and learn from the professionals they will work alongside.
